Detroit Tigers Spring Training
Date: April 2
Venue: Joker Marchant Stadium – Lakeland
-The Tigers take on the Toronto Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m. in their last home game of 2012 Spring Training.

Lakeland Flying Tigers Exhibition Game
Date: April 4
Venue: Joker Marchant Stadium – Lakeland
-The Tigers kickoff their 2012 season at Joker Marchant in an exhibition game against Southeastern University Fire.
-The first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., and gates open at 5:00 p.m.

Lakeland Flying Tigers Home-Opener
Date: April 7
Venue: Joker Marchant Stadium – Lakeland
-The Flying Tigers open their FSL season against the Tampa Yankees at 6 p.m.
-Gates will open at 4:30 p.m., and the first 1,500 fans receive a 2012 magnetic schedule.
-Publix will sponsor an Easter egg hunt after the game that will feature the Easter Bunny.
-A firework show will follow if weather permits.

-This is an ISA qualifying event that’s expected to bring in over 130 softball players.

Flying Tigers Individual Tickets on Sale Saturday

Individual tickets for Lakeland Flying Tigers home games will go on sale Saturday, February 26th at 10:00 a.m. at the Joker Marchant Stadium box office. The box office is located at 2301 Lakeland Hills Blvd. Tickets may also be purchased at 10:00 a.m. through the Flying Tigers website, www.LakelandFlyingTigers.com or via telephone by calling toll free 1-866-66-TIGER (84437). Season tickets are currently on sale for $210 (only $3 per ticket) and include special season ticket holder benefits including events, trips and a ticket exchange program. The Graphic Systems Officers Club Party Deck and party suites are available for all games.

This season will mark Lakeland’s 62^nd season in the Florida State League (FSL) and 45^th as a Detroit Tigers minor league affiliate, the longest affiliation in all of Minor League Baseball. Lakeland is an original member of the FSL, a league that was established in 1919.

The Flying Tigers will open the season on Thursday, April 7 against the two-time defending FSL champion Tampa Yankees. The schedule is highlighted with home games on July 4th, Armed Forces Day, Flag Day, Cinco de Mayo, and education day games. There will be appearances by the Philly Phanatic and Myron Noodleman as well as fireworks shows. A current promotional calendar can be found at LakelandFlyingTigers.com.

Ticket prices for Flying Tigers regular season games are: $6 for box seats and $5 for reserved seats. Adults ages 55 and over and children 14 and under receive a $1 discount. Saturday tickets are an additional $1. Parking is FREE.

Flying Tigers Opening Day Tonight (April 9)

The Lakeland Flying Tigers 2010 home season kicks off on Friday, April 9 at Joker Marchant Stadium when the team hosts the defending Florida State League Champion Tampa Yankees sponsored by Chick-fil-A. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm and the gates to Joker Marchant Stadium will open at 5:30 pm. Flying Tiger pitcher Mark Sorensen is expected to get the starting nod for the Flying Tigers.
The Flying Tigers will be holding a special happy hour from 5:30-7:00 pm sponsored by Bell’s Beer. There will be free specialty beer sampling and giveaways. There will also be special draft and bottled beer prices.
The first 1,500 fans that enter the ballpark will receive a free 2010 Flying Tigers magnet schedule sponsored by the Holiday Inn Lakeland Hotel & Conference Center. During the game fans will be entertained by BirdZerk, one of the wildest, craziest mascots in sports today. Following the game will be a spectacular fireworks display.

Flying Tigers All-U-Can-Eat Night With Outback – June 3

The Lakeland Flying Tigers return to Joker Marchant Stadium for a four-game series with the St. Lucie Mets June 3-6. The series kicks off on Wednesday, June 3 with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 PM. Gates will open at 6:00 PM. It’s All-You-Can-Eat Night sponsored by Outback Steakhouse – North Lakeland. Tickets are just $10 and includes admission to the game and all-you-can-eat sliders, hot dogs, sausages, peanuts, popcorn, pretzels and chips as well as food from the Outback from 6:00-9:00 pm or while supplies last. Outback and the Flying Tigers have also partnered to provide fifty tickets for Lakeland Police Athletic members to attend the game.
Game two of the series will be Thursday, June 4 at 7:00 PM. Thursday is Flying Tigers USO Night. Fans can enjoy $1 beers and sodas while the Flying Tigers will be celebrating USO night and the team will play in their special camo jerseys.
The series continues on Friday, June 5 at 7:00 PM. The Flying Tigers will be giving away thunderstix first 1,000 paid fans. Kids eat free at all Friday home games as well. All kids 14 and under will receive a free hot dog, soda and bag of chips with paid admission.
The series concludes on Saturday, June 6. Game time is scheduled for 6:00 PM with the gates opening at 5:00 PM. Following the game will be a spectacular post fireworks show sponsored by The Ledger. The Flying Tigers will also be hosting the Heather’s Hope Tiger Trot at Marchant Stadium. Registration begins at 3:00 PM with the 5K race beginning at 4:00 PM. There will also be a fun run. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 children 15 and under and families are $50 (2 adults and children). All participants will receive a t-shirt, admission to the game, refreshments and awards ceremony.

Detroit Tigers 2008 #1 Draft Pick Ryan Perry to Join Flying Tigers Today

The Detroit Tigers 2008 first round draft pick (21^st overall), Ryan Perry, will join the Flying Tigers in time for tonight’s game against the Tampa Yankees at 7:00 p.m.

Since joining the organization, Perry has appeared in two games for the Gulf Coast League Tigers. In two innings, Perry has a 0-0 record with four strikeouts. He has yet to give up a hit, run, or walk. At the University of Arizona in 2008, Perry appeared in 31 games and compiled a 6-3 record with a 2.89 ERA, one save, and 72 strikeouts.

The Flying Tigers next home game is tonight against the Tampa Yankees. Tonight is a 2 for 1 Ticket Monday courtesy of The Ledger. To receive the discount, fans should present the correct coupon from today’s edition (7/28) of The Ledger at the Joker Marchant Stadium Box Office. Gates for this evening’s game open at 6:00 p.m.

Tickets are $6 for box seats or $5 for reserved seats. All seniors (55 and over) and children (14 and under) receive a $1 discount. Parking is free.

The Lakeland Flying Tigers annual summer recreation game will be Tuesday, June 24 at 10:30 am. The fun is not just reserved for the kids. Come out and have lunch while watching the Flying Tigers take on the Jupiter Hammerheads. Or just call in sick to work and come out. Don’t worry we wont tell anyone.

Flying Tigers to Honor Military Heroes on Saturday, May 17

Beginning on Armed Forces Day, Saturday, May 17^th, the Lakeland Flying Tigers will honor an original Flying Tiger in a season long tribute. Dick Rossi passed away on Thursday, April 17^th. To recognize his service and dedication to our country, the Flying Tigers will wear a patch containing his last name, “Rossi,” on the right sleeve of their camouflage jerseys. The jerseys will be worn this Saturday and every Thursday the Flying Tigers play at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland this season. The Flying Tigers front office staff will also be wearing special shirts with “Rossi” on the right sleeve as well.

Shortly before the start of World War II, Rossi joined the Flying Tigers, pilots who traveled to China to defend our nation against attacks by the Japanese. Even though the Flying Tigers fought for less than a year, Rossi was credited for shooting down six Japanese planes. After the volunteer group disbanded, Rossi served as the president of the Flying Tigers Association for 65 years. During this time, he often shared his experiences and spoke about the Flying Tigers in interviews and air shows throughout the United States.

Rossi, along with all veterans, active, and future military will be honored this Saturday, May 17^th, during a very special “Armed Forces Extravaganza.” During this event, the Flying Tigers and 1430 WLKF will welcome home Air Force Major Susan Romano from Iraq. Gates will open at 3:00 p.m. The festivities will begin at 4:00 p.m. with live music from Buck Hummer and the Pick-Ups, presentations, ceremonies, and much more. At 6:00 p.m., the Flying Tigers will square off against the Dunedin Blue Jays. The evening will conclude with a patriotic fireworks show presented by The Ledger and 97 Country WPCV following the game (weather permitting).

Does it get any better than this? Sitting at a ballpark on a nice summer night watching baseball and fireworks and honoring the military heroes that make our country free. The answer: no. Be there. It is pretty much your patriotic duty.

Flying Tiger Rick Porcello Named FSL Pitcher of the Week

Lakeland Flying Tigers starting pitcher Rick Porcello was named Pitcher of the Week by the Florida State League (FSL) today. The selection was for the period of May 5-11.

During the week Porcello won both his starts against St. Lucie and Vero Beach. In 11 innings pitched, Porcello did not allow any runs scored while giving up only 6 hits and 4 walks. On the season Porcello is now 3-4 with a 1.74 ERA. His ERA leads the Flying Tigers and ranks 5^th in the FSL. Porcello has allowed only 28 hits in 41.1 innings pitched.

Porcello is beginning his first professional season with the Tigers organization. He was selected by the Tigers in the 1^st round (27^th overall) of the June 2007 draft. He was selected as USA Today’s High School Player of the Year in 2007 after compiling a 10-0 record, 1.18 ERA and 112 strikeouts in 71 innings pitched as a senior at Seton Hall Prep High in West Orange, NJ. Porcello was also named the 2006-07 Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year.
