			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Florida’s Sunshine State Games annual Summer Games competitions return to Polk County this weekend for the fourth consecutive year as the Polk County Festival kicks off Saturday morning with eight sports in action.</p>
<p>The Lakeland Center plays host to five sports with Fencing, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo and Weightlifting on Saturday and Sunday.  Saturday will be a big day within the confines of the Lakeland Center as a total of 859 athletes are currently registered for the five sports. </p>
<p>Also taking place is Baseball at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex in Auburndale, Table Tennis at the Simpson Park Community Center in Lakeland and Wrestling at Polk State College in Winter Haven. </p>
<p>All Florida’s Sunshine State Games events have no admission charge and the public is encouraged to attend with the chance to see Florida’s future stars of the amateur and professional sports world.</p>

<p>Sunday, April 18 vs. Brevard County Manatees @ 1:00 p.m. (Gates open at noon)<br />
Sunday is Kids Day.  All kids 14 and under will receive free admission to the game.  Kids can participate in a pre-game clinic with Flying Tigers players on the field beginning at noon (weather permitting).  Kids can also run the bases just like the Flying Tigers following the game (weather permitting).  All fans will receive a voucher for a free sundae compliments of Dairy Queen.</p>
<p>Monday, April 19 vs. Brevard County Manatees @ 7:00 p.m. (Gates open at 6:00 p.m.)<br />
Monday is $1 hot dog night.  Fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs all night.  Also, check The Ledger for a special two-for-one ticket offer.</p>
<p>Tuesday, April 20 vs. Brevard County Manatees @ 10:30 a.m. (Gates open at 9:30 a.m.)<br />
The Flying Tigers have several exciting promotions planned for the game including:<br />
•	The Flying Tigers will be hosting Polk County students in the first of two Polk County Education Day games at Marchant Stadium.  Students will have the opportunity to participate in on-field promotions as well as special game announcers.  Tickets to the game and lunch are provided by the Detroit Tigers Foundation of Florida.<br />
•	Flying Tigers Silver Sluggers Tuesday presented by Humana.  Silver Sluggers members will receive free admission to the game as well as a complimentary soda. •	KRAFT Singles Tuesday Tickets.  Fans receive a special buy one, get one free ticket offer by bringing a KRAFT Singles package wrapper to the ticket office.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Lakeland Flying Tigers will be hosting their inaugural Wing Ding presented by Budweiser on Thursday, April 15 at Joker Marchant Stadium prior to the Flying Tigers game vs. the Clearwater Threshers.  The Wing Ding begins at 6:00 pm and first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 pm.  There will be free samples of Bud Light Wheat and Bud Light Lime from 6:00-7:00 pm as well as live music by Zebron and James.  $1 beer and soda will be available beginning at 6:00 pm until the end of the 7th inning.<br />
Area Polk County restaurants will be competing for the Flying Tigers Wing Ding Champion.  Competitors will be judged in three categories; best overall wing, best sauce and the people’s choice award which will be judged by the fans.  Winners will receive trophies and prizes from the Flying Tigers.  Restaurants scheduled to participate include Natalie’s Sports Bar &amp; Grill, Hurricane Grill &amp; Wings, MoJo’s, Smokey Bones, Hot Shots Sports Bar &amp; Grill, Kazbor’s Grille and Sonny’s.<br />
Tickets to the Wing Ding are $10 and include 10 wing tickets, free beer samples, live music and a ticket to the Flying Tigers game. Additional wing tickets are available for $.50 each.  Parking is free.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Lakeland Flying Tigers 2010 home season kicks off on Friday, April 9 at Joker Marchant Stadium when the team hosts the defending Florida State League Champion Tampa Yankees sponsored by Chick-fil-A.  Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm and the gates to Joker Marchant Stadium will open at 5:30 pm. Flying Tiger pitcher Mark Sorensen is expected to get the starting nod for the Flying Tigers.<br />
The Flying Tigers will be holding a special happy hour from 5:30-7:00 pm sponsored by Bell’s Beer.  There will be free specialty beer sampling and giveaways.  There will also be special draft and bottled beer prices.<br />
The first 1,500 fans that enter the ballpark will receive a free 2010 Flying Tigers magnet schedule sponsored by the Holiday Inn Lakeland Hotel &amp; Conference Center. During the game fans will be entertained by BirdZerk, one of the wildest, craziest mascots in sports today.  Following the game will be a spectacular fireworks display.<br />

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>We don&#8217;t have a lot of details right now, but a bit of &#8220;breaking&#8221; news to report&#8230;.The <a href="http://web.worldbaseballclassic.com/rosters/index.jsp?team=chn&amp;season=2009" target="_blank">Chinese National Team</a> is in Lakeland preparing for the upcoming <a href="http://web.worldbaseballclassic.com/index.jsp" target="_blank">World Baseball Classic</a> and they have announced that they will be playing two exhibition games against local college teams. On Monday the Chinese Team will take on Southeastern University at Southeastern at 2:30pm and they will travel to Winter Haven on Tuesday to take on Polk Community College at 1:30pm. While there aren&#8217;t any &#8220;household names&#8221; on the Chinese National team this year, they have a couple of <a href="http://web.worldbaseballclassic.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090218&amp;content_id=3843706&amp;vkey=wbc&amp;team=&amp;lang=1" target="_blank">prospects</a> from the Yankees organization that are worth checking out. If we get any more information, we will be sure to post it here.</p>
