Luckily the patrons of Polk County will be continuing on the football tradition with the inaugural season of the Lakeland Raiders indoor football team. In order to start the season off right, the team will be hosting Lakeland Raiders Fan Fest on Saturday, February 11, 2012 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at The Lakeland Center.

The Webber Warriors will play a 10-game season. Five of those games will be played at their home field, Legion Field in Lake Wales, including back-to-back home games to close their season. The Warriors kickoff their season on the road, where they will meet fellow NAIA opponent, University of Virginia-Wise, on September 3. The following week, on September 10, they will take on Shorter College (GA) for a tough home- opener.  More information on Webber Football can be found on their official website. The 2011 Hall of Fame class includes: former Florida Southern golfer and PGA Tour standout Marco Dawson; track and field superstar JJ Corbett ; water-skiing superstar Ricky Joe McCormick; and Florida Southern basketball legend Jerry Johnson. In addition to the four inductees from the world of sports, P. Scott Linder will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as a Community Contributor for his contributions to Polk County.

 In addition to the All Sports Awards, the evening will also feature the induction of a new Polk County Sports Hall of Fame class. Ten awards will be given to athletes in specific categories such as Professional Athlete of the Year and Male and Female Team of the Year among many others. The winners are selected by the PCASA Selection Committee, made up of local business leaders and sports figures and will be announced later this month.

Required pre-registration begins January 1, 2011. Deadline to enter – Friday, February 11.

The entry fee is $10 for the first event and $3 for each additional event up to a maximum of $28.  Bowling, Golf, Shooting and team sports have additional fees. All participants receive a T-shirt and are invited to a free Closing Ceremony at The Lakeland Center, which includes special awards, mini-health fair, goody bags, door prizes, andentertainment.

High school students already involved with athletics, as well as entering high school freshmen who plan to join an athletic team are welcome to attend.  Lunch will be provided to all attendees.  Registration is required, and space is limited.  You can register online or by calling 863-687-1400.
