Carillon Classic 5K Run & Walk Committee Recruits Teams to Compete In 2016 Charity Event Set for Saturday, April 30 at Bok Tower Gardens

Runners can earn extra recognition and have plenty of fun while they’re at it by competing in the 2016 Carillon Classic 5K Run & Walk as a member of a team. The good news is there’s no extra fee to be-come involved in the team competition at the charity event scheduled for Saturday, April 30 at Bok Tower Gardens.

Team leaders can register the name of their team when they sign up for the Carillon Classic at active.com. Once the team name is established, members can join it online during the registration process. Anyone with questions about the team registration process can call Kelsey Hull at 863-619-6131.

The deadline for registering a team is April 6, the same day the early registration fee of $25 for adults and $15 for students expires. All those who register early are guaranteed a Carillon Classic 5K dri-fit style t-shirt and the option to be involved in the team competition. However, the fee increases by $5 and the t-shirt cannot be guaranteed after April 6.

Each team must have a minimum of four and no more than six members and include at least one woman or a runner of either gender over the age of 50. Team awards and rankings will be determined by adding up the combined times of the top four runners on each team. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams. The “most creative” team will receive a “Judge’s Choice” award no matter how long its top four members take to run the challenging course.

Now in its fifth year, the Carillon Classic 5K is a charitable event sponsored by the Dick Pope/Polk County Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) in partnership with Bok Tower Gardens, Youth and Family Alternatives (YFA), Inc. and corporate sponsors to raise funds for YFA’s George W. Harris, Jr. Runaway and Youth Crisis Shelter in Bartow and the FPRA chapter’s educational and professional programs. The first three Carillon Classic 5K’s attracted a combined total of nearly 1,600 runners and walkers, raising more than $16,000 for charity.

Due to a $12 million capital improvement project now underway at Bok Tower Gardens the 5K course will be altered this year, with details on the new course to be announced soon.

Thanks for the great advance coverage you provide for the Carillon Classic 5K Run & Walk. With your promotional assistance, the Carillon Classic has grown beyond our wildest expectations in its first four years. We are currently projecting nearly 600 runners for the 2016 event on April 30 at Bok Tower. And what’s more important, we’re looking forward to another banner year in terms of raising funds for our designated charity — the George W. Harris, Jr. Runaway and Youth Crisis Shelter in Bartow.
