The Lake Mirror Classic Cruises Into Lakeland for the 13th Year
Posted on October 19th, 2012 by Rebecca Thompson
Do you have plans this weekend? Beginning tonight, antique cars and hot rods will line up throughout Downtown Lakeland for the Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival & Auction. This “must do” collector car show is now in its 13th year. Find over 600 show vehicles surrounding the scenic Lake Mirror promenade in Downtown Lakeland. This auto classic doesn’t feature local collectors only. In fact, the event draws top car collectors from across the southeast and serves as a support event to the prestigious Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.
The Lake Mirror Classic has become a source of pride for Lakeland. According to LakeMirrorClassic.com, area residents and public officials welcome this opportunity to showcase Lake Mirror Park and the historic downtown to thousands of visiting car show guests. Not only that, but the event has helped raise $250,000 for various local non-profit groups since 1999.
Brian Redman, British racing driver, will serve as Honorary Chairman for the 2012 Lake Mirror Classic Auto Festival. Brian has raced for Ford, Ferrari, Porsche, Cooper, Williams, Chaparral, Jaguar, Chevron and McLaren. He is also a two-time winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring and a three-time winner of the 24 Hours of Daytona among numerous other honors.
The car show will kick off this evening from 5:00-10:00 p.m. with an auction preview party, the Budweiser Hot Rod Rendezvous and an unveiling of new 2013 model cars. Saturday’s schedule is packed full of events consisting of an opening ceremony, lunch parade, Brian Redman interview, vintage fashion show, Parade of Classic Wooden Boats and Amphicar Splash-In, awards ceremony, Concours d’Elegance, Downtown Auto Festival and more taking place between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Then, Sunday will wrap up the classic auto festival with a road tour and brunch from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
