Arts in the Ballpark
The Lakeland Flying Tigers take on the Dunedin Blue Jays Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m., and fans may not recognize players in their untraditional jerseys with an added artistic flair. The Flying Tigers are teaming up with Polk Arts Alliance for “Arts in the Park”, a night that will showcase Polk County arts through local exhibitors, artists, musicians and more! Celebrate ” with the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Joker Marchant Stadium when gates open at 4:30 p.m.
The one-of-a-kind jersey that Flying Tiger players will wear were designed by local artist Michelle Phillips. The design was chosen in a series of steps. First, several people entered the contest with drawings and photographs, but only a handful were selected. The selected jerseys were then brought to Flying Tigers games over the course of a week, and fans voted on their favorite. The chosen design was “Dragonfly”.
The dragonfly jersey will be raffled off following the game. For $75, winners will receive the jersey along with the chance to go on-field and pick the player’s jersey they’d like. The player will take it off their back to autograph and take a photo with the player.
All proceeds from the raffle will go to the Polk Arts Alliance.
