What’s Happening in Polk County Sports

Dixie Youth World Series
Dates: Now—Thursday, August 9
Venue: George Pittas Complex—Bartow
-Opening ceremonies for the 2012 Dixie Youth Baseball World Series began Friday, August 3 at Tiger Town.
-This double-elimination tournament wraps up on Thursday, August 9.
-Bartow has been the site of four World Series tournaments — in 1970, 1977, 1981 and 1987.

Florida Orange Blossom Trail Series Summer Classic
Dates: Friday, August 10 – Sunday, August 11
Venue: Simpson Park Community Center—Lakeland
-This sanctioned table tennis tournament begins Friday night with Doubles and Sandpaper events.
-Players from across Florida and the southwest U.S., along with several international competitors, travel to participate in the event.

August Youth Classic
Dates: Saturday, August 11—Sunday, August 12
Venue: Bartow Softball Complex
-This Florida ISA Classic is a youth fast-pitch qualifying event that is expected to bring 420 participants to the Bartow Softball Complex.

Splash Bash
Date: Saturday, August 11
Venue: Rowdy Gaines Pool – Winter Haven
-Bring the family to the pool for some fun with inflatables, swimming, a cannonball contest, food and more.
-All ages can enjoy the fun for $3 a person.
