Sunshine State Games Return to Polk for a Two-Weekend Festival

Celebrate 33 years of amateur sports in Florida at the 2012 Sunshine State Games!

The Florida Sunshine State Games return to Polk for a two-weekend festival on June 15-17 and June 23-24. The Polk County Festival will host over 2,500 athletes for the 8 events that span two weekends.

Fast Pitch Softball and Table Tennis will be offered June 15-17 while Fencing, Judo, Karate, Taekwondo, Weightlifting and Wrestling will be held June 23-24. For the sixth consecutive year, The Lakeland Center will serve as a hub of activity on June 23-24 with five of the six events being held in the downtown Lakeland facility. Wrestling will be held at Polk State College.

Who Can Compete?

All Florida residents who have lived in the state for at least 30 days prior to the date of competition are eligible if they meet the requirements specified by each sport. Age divisions, levels of expertise and types of qualification vary with each sport.

Registration

Registration is now open! New and returning competitors may register at flsports.imarcsgroup.com or visit Florida Sports. Registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis, and certain events could close prior to the deadline based on entries. No Refunds.

Volunteers

The Polk County Festival will be held on successive weekends.  Table Tennis will be contested the first weekend and volunteers are needed.  Judo, in action the second weekend of the Festival, is in need of volunteers at The Lakeland Center.  Medical and General volunteers are needed the second weekend at  The Lakeland Center as it hosts five sports. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Volunteers will receive a 2012 Sunshine State Games t-shirt and will be able to claim a part of the longest-standing State Games in the United States, dating back to 1980.

Sports offered at the 2012 Polk County Festival are as follows:

Fencing
Dates: June 23-24, 2012
Location: The Lakeland Center
Entry Fee: Entry fee is $35 for the first event, and $15 for each additional event.
Other: USFA membership required.

Judo – Florida Judo, Inc. State Championships
Dates: June 23-24, 2012
Location: The Lakeland Center
Entry Fee: Pre-registration fee is $40 for the first division and $25 for each additional division.
On-site registration entry fee is $70 for the first division and $30 for each additional division. No day off entries.
Other: Membership Required.

Karate
Dates: June 23, 2012
Location: The Lakeland Center
Entry Fee: Pre-registration entry fee is $40 per participant for one division, $50 for two divisions (ex. Kata and Kumite would be $50). Late registration fee is $50 per participant for one division, $60 for two divisions.
Other: USAKL rules apply. No membership required.

Table Tennis
Dates: June 16-17, 2012
Location: Simpson Park Community Center
Entry Fee: Entry Fee: Entry fee is $13 for the 1st event and $8 for each additional event. Events will be rated with results sent to USATT. A $7 USATT rating fee is due on-site, payable to LTTA. Do not include rating fee in entry fee.
Other: USATT membership is required except for Sandpaper Singles event.

Taekwondo
Dates: June 23, 2012
Location: The Lakeland Center
Entry Fee: Pre-registration entry fee is $40 for the first event and $10 for each additional event. Late registration entry fee is $50 for the first event and $10 for each additional event. On-site registration entry fee is $60 for the first event and $10 for each additional event. No entries will be taken the day of the event.

Weightlifting – Florida LWC #14 State Cup
Dates: June 23, 2012
Location: The Lakeland Center
Entry Fee: Pre-registration entry fee is $25. On-site registration entry fee is $35.

Wrestling
Dates: June 23-24, 2012
Location: Polk State College
Other: Registrations will be taken directly by Florida Amateur Wrestling Association (FAWA).
