May marks a new semester and a new group of interns for Polk County Tourism & Sports Marketing. We are pleased to introduce you to Jimmy Carelton, Miguel Castro, and Christopher Price.
“Sports have always been a huge part of my life. I couldn’t dream of doing anything else.” This is a quote from 19 year old, Jimmy Carleton. Growing up playing soccer, football, baseball, basketball, and hockey, he says he couldn’t live without continuing his passion for sports in his future career. Just finishing his freshman year at Ferrum College, where he played for the men’s college soccer team, he has been able to keep his passion and love of sports present in his life. With a major in Sports Management and a Minor in Media & Communications, he has thrived in a field of study that he absolutely loves. He was also heavily involved in the Greek Life at Ferrum College as well. Being the Vice President of External Affairs for his fraternity, Pi Kappa Alpha, and also being the Academic Chair of the Greek Council, has kept him very much a part of the school’s extracurricular life. He says, “Being able to be so heavily involved with the Greek Life at Ferrum College, it has helped me to be able to make connections and network with many people I would have otherwise never had the chance to meet.” He plans to go into the Sports Marketing career field and push towards working for a major sports franchise once he graduates from Ferrum College.
Miguel Castro is currently a third year undergraduate student at Webber International University where he is majoring in Marketing as well as obtaining a minor in Sport Business Management. Miguel has lived in the area all of his life, specifically in Hardee county. In high school he was part of the leadership team assembled by the principal, Dr. Michelle Polk, as well as serving as captain of the high school band. As an avid leader, Miguel continues to excel in his leadership endeavors by being the current Marketing and Public Relations Director for WIU’s Student Leadership Association as well as the Trumpet Section Leader for the university’s marching band. Miguel is sure to bring leadership, commitment, and most importantly results to PCTSM this summer. Miguel stated, “I hope to learn as much as possible while interning here, and hope to leave my mark there as a great intern.”
Christopher Price, 21, is a student at the University of Central Florida. Chris was raised in Auburndale and has lived here his whole life. Along with having knowledge of the Polk area he is currently majoring in Advertising and Public Relations at UCF, and minoring in Leadership Studies. Chris graduated from Lake Region High School in 2009 and Polk State College in 2011 with an Associate’s degree in Mass Communication. Throughout high school he participated his time in the Boy Scouts of America and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout, along with representing Lake Region’s swim, soccer, and tennis teams in competition. Chris is very excited to be here and is looking forward to the experience and knowledge he will gain from interning at PCTSM. In the future Chris looks to utilize the knowledge gained from here and combine it with his passion for public relations and advertising and believes that real world experience is necessary for making him a well-rounded employee in the future.
