Polk’s Rookie of the Year

Congratulations to Ft. Meade’s Andrew McCutchen for being named Major League Baseball’ s Rookie of the Year by Baseball America Magazine. McCutchen had a great first year with the Pirates once he was called up to the Majors on June 4. His average was .286 with 12 home runs and he also added  22 stolen bases in 27 attempts. McCutchen was a first-round draft pick, the 11th overall selection, by the Pirates in 2005. He was a standout at Ft. Meade where he batted .474 with 8 Home runs, 40 RBI, 45 stolen bases, and only 5 strikeouts in 2004 during his senior year. He also played football and ran track for the Miners.
