Winter Haven’s Berto Wins Again

WBC Welterweight Champion Andre Berto successfully defended his title Saturday night against one of his toughest opponents to date, Luis Collazo. The fight moved Berto’s record to 24-0 as he won the unanimous decision (114-113, 114-113 and 116-111) on HBO. No word yet on who his next opponent will be, but as his record continues to climb higher into the undefeated ranks, the fights will get tougher and tougher (not to mention with bigger and bigger audiences). Some of the big names in the Welterweight division are: Antonio Margarito, Miguel Cotto, Shane Mosley and Joshua Clottey.

Be sure to check out Berto’s new website for information on his upcoming fights and keep up with him on his own blog. It is a pretty cool site (I especially like how you have to enter the site).

  1. Teddy Atlas Says:

That fight was Berto’s toughest yet…could have gone either way. Collazo certainly didn’t lose that fight by much; I’m not sure what fight the judge who scored it 116-111 was watching but it wasn’t the same fight I watched.

I can’t wait to see this kid continue to improve and hope that the close call against Collazo makes him hungrier to prepare for the bigger names in that division.
