Lakeland’s Steve Pearce Called Up to Majors

Former Lakeland High School standout, and recent Polk County All Sports Awards winner (Pro Athlete of the Year), Steve Pearce was called up by the Pittsburgh Pirates on Saturday. His first game up with the Pirates was Saturday night, when he started in right field against San Diego. Pearce spent a week with the Pirates earlier this month and made his Major League debut last September.

This trip to the big leagues may be permanent for Pearce after the Pirates traded away star outfielder Xavier Nady to the Yankees in a deal last week.
