Lakeland Flying Tigers starting pitcher Jonah Nickerson was named Pitcher of the Week by the Florida State League (FSL).  The selection was for the period of May 12-18.

In his two starts Nickerson was 1-1 with an ERA of 1.84.  In 14.2 innings pitched he allowed only 9 hits, 2 walks while striking out 13 batters.  In his May 18 start, Nickerson had a no-hitter into the eighth inning before allowing an infield single with two outs.

Nickerson flirted with perfection on April 26 when he retired the first 21 batters of the game.  He was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the seventh round of the June 2006 draft.  Nickerson was named the Most Outstanding Player in the College World Series when he led Oregon State to a national championship in 2006. This is the second consecutive week a Flying Tigers pitcher has won this award.  Rick Porcello was the Pitcher of the Week for May 5-11.  The Flying Tigers are a Class A Affiliate of the Detroit Tigers.  Check out the Flying Tigers website for a schedule and more information.
