Sad Day in Mudville

Well, bittersweet may be a better word. The last day of Spring Training is here, which means a couple of things. Mainly it means that the Detroit Tigers will be heading back to their home at Comerica Park in Detroit and the Cleveland Indians will be heading back to Jacobs Field in Cleveland. While it is sad to see them leave, it is exciting to see the beginning of another season of Major League Baseball. The second thing it means, by the way, is that all those sayings like “Every team comes to Spring Training with hopes of winning the pennant and every player believes they can win the batting title, etc.” will go out the window with the first pitch of the regular season. Hey, it’s just the truth. At least Cleveland and Detroit aren’t in that group of teams that have to throw those hopes out the window! They should both be fighting hard for the Division title….and more this season.
By the way, don’t forget that baseball hasn’t totally headed North for the summer. The Lakeland Flying Tigers will start their season on Saturday, April 5 against the Clearwater Threshers. Also, look for Flying Tigers General Manager Zach Burek to be posting updates here regularly on the Flying Tigers season as it unfolds.
